- Some musicians follow the path laid before them.â€Â¯Others have to carve their own path in order to claim destiny.â€Â¯Learn what it means to be exceptional in this exciting story for young musicians and songwriters.â€Â¯Inâ€Â¯Exceptional, four high school seniors receive the once-in-a-year chance to present their own personally written songs for their final high school spring concert.â€Â¯Each student has a skillset in a different instrument: the violin, the harp, the harmonica, and the steel drum. But their songs are meant to be part of a jazz performance, and their instrumentsâ€Â¯aren'tâ€Â¯traditionalâ€Â¯jazz leads. Can the groupâ€Â¯developâ€Â¯a show that will blow the audience away? With encouragement from their music teacherâ€Â¯andâ€Â¯creative inspiration, the group writes their songsâ€Â¯and preparesâ€Â¯to play! With characters based on famous musicians Scott Tixier,â€Â¯the violinist; Brandeeâ€Â¯Younger,â€Â¯the harpist; Yvonnickâ€Â¯Prene,â€Â¯the harmonica player, and Victor Provost,â€Â¯the steel pannist, this book is a testament to the beauty of jazz and the power of exceptional dedication.â€Â¯These artists inspire author Eric Thomasâ€Â¯because theyâ€Â¯demonstrateâ€Â¯exceptionalism.Songwriters and musicians ever-whether amateur or professionalâ€Â¯songwriters and musiciansâ€Â¯will enjoy this story, especiallyâ€Â¯those who aspire, dream, andâ€Â¯tirelesslyâ€Â¯to perfect theirâ€Â¯skills.
